In closing the chapter on January, Alwida Fellows provides inspiration, in 1923, on how to remodel your past season frocks. She describes how to choose the right dress to re-work so as to use the fabric wisely to get the most wear from it. She also describes how to take a wrap or a street coat and fashion a new frock for the upcoming season. For my personal contribution for "re-fashioning" I have chosen to use all the bits and pieces of yarn left over from other projects. Since I frogged the blanket I felt I need to use up some of that yarn, so Granny Squares, here I come! I have wanted to start this project, using the white backgrounds, since last summer when I saw such charming Grannies on Pinterest. Now I have some time, so here we go. *Funny story, Husband has major problems with his hearing. When he saw me working on these and asked me what they were for, I told him pillow covers, he thought I said seat covers, for the car.......can you just see it?????
Through the entire book, I am reminded of advice from my Grandmother, my Aunts and my Mother. One could easily assume that the information here is dated. You will be surprised to see that is quite the opposite. All through the inter-webs I see a return to practical. Everything from gardening to provide healthy food for our families to sewing our own clothes in an attempt to turn the tide on the waste so prevalent in the garment industry. A return to the home, the importance of friendships and thoughtfulness toward others, a proper approach to a balanced life and being the best person you can be are all hallmarks of this charming book.
