Vintage Notions, Last Week of Giveaway

Last Week for Giveaway, Vintage Notions!! Winner will be announced Friday, February 1st.
January really went fast for me. I was looking ahead in Vintage Notions to see what February held and was pleasantly surprised. The chapter opens with an essay titled "The Understanding Heart."  Subsequent chapters cover "Every Woman's House...Her Castle,"  undergarments, the importance of corsets, the perfect pie and guidelines for the ideal lingerie set. February will be fun!

In closing the chapter on January, Alwida Fellows provides inspiration, in 1923, on how to remodel your past season frocks. She describes how to choose the right dress to re-work so as to use the fabric wisely to get the most wear from it. She also describes how to take a wrap or a street coat and fashion a new frock for the upcoming season. For my personal contribution for "re-fashioning" I have chosen to use all the bits and pieces of yarn left over from other projects. Since I frogged the blanket I felt I need to use up some of that yarn, so Granny Squares, here I come! I have wanted to start this project, using the white backgrounds, since last summer when I saw such charming Grannies on Pinterest. Now I have some time, so here we go. *Funny story, Husband has major problems with his hearing. When he saw me working on these and asked me what they were for, I told him pillow covers, he thought I said seat covers, for the car.......can you just see it?????
And last but not least some home keeping advice on how to dress up your wintertime table. Such practical and reasonable advice.

Through the entire book, I am reminded of advice from my Grandmother, my Aunts and my Mother. One could easily assume that the information here is dated. You will be surprised to see that is quite the opposite. All through the inter-webs I see a return to practical. Everything from gardening to provide healthy food for our families to sewing our own clothes in an attempt to turn the tide on the waste so prevalent in the garment industry. A return to the home, the importance of friendships and thoughtfulness toward others, a proper approach to a balanced life and being the best person you can be are all hallmarks of this charming book. The Giveaway ends on Thursday, January 31. I will announce the winner on Friday, February 1. Good luck to all.

*The book will ship directly from Indygo Junction.

Your husband is a corker! Car seats, indeed! I love the white granny backgrounds and in fact, that is something on my long list to do. I saw some white background grannie pillows and they were awesome. How did you like Downton last night? I tell you, Matthew just freaks me out. He always has this ghostly-quizzical look on his face. Like--"What"? !!

Working away at the Grannies. After the 60's and 70's I swore there would be no more of these in my future. Well, never say never. The white backgrounds are so fresh, clean looking. I have two blogs I am featuring this week that showcase Crochet, you will love them.

Husband has a rather warped sense of humor, a a little deafness and you have a comedy show, really!

Downton, finally an episode this season with some meat in it! To me, Mathew has almost always appeared to be confused, conflicted or constipated!(((smile)))
