guess, this version is also...wait for it....> $1000.00!
OK, so all this thinking about the classic Burbury Trench had me on a quest. I tried to find one, below $500.00. How naieve is that? Seriously, I had no idea.  I found these on polyvore, available through Net a Porter.  This is why I sew. Now I do understand how much work is involved with the top stitching and all, but really? The cheapest is still greater than $1000.00? I can just see myself picking through the ripe melons at the grocery and, Splat. Melon juice staining the the double breasted presentation. Or, on the subway, during flu season, well, never mind.
There has to be a decent coat, double breasted or not that I can replicate here. Yes? The other elements of the Top Ten Essentials can be easily replicated. But this one, is going to be a quest in progress.  Finding the right fabric would be my greatest challenge. So, this is going to be a "thing."  Finding the fabric, wish me luck!

Gratuity Moment: being very happy with a Trench that costs way less and serves my purpose. However, if anyone from Burbury, Saks 5th, or Nieman Marcus needs me to wear one this season, so that I can be totally objective about its attributes, I might just consider helping out.

Good luck! Making a trench would be a tremendous achievement. Those prices are insane. I had a beautiful one with a button-out lining, but it got old and dilapidated. (I got it in high school.) I find that I don't like long coats, but anything shorter is pointless in the rain, which we get plenty of in Northern California. I avoid wearing coats as much as possible.

Hi Jeanne Marie, I agree, it will be quite a job. Are you familiar with blog "Adonising?" Elmo is an amazing seamstress. She did a trench and it took about a year. However, she has made a million other things during that time. I have been following her journey and it has given me incentive. Now when I start this depends on several things. Of course, the fabric is the big one and the time is the other. Here is a link to Addonising if you are interested, hope it works.
