 While sorting through old posts I come upon so many items to share. I admit to forgetting some of these items made by friends and feel they need another day in the light! So, I plan to bring one up each Wednesday under the Time Machine header. Enjoy, there is some amazing work to share in these posts.

Take a Peek Into the Sew and Sews

A little tour through the Sew and Sews group that meets on Tuesdays. Enjoy. So many Mini's from our R. These are playing card and post card size.

 These fabrics are unused from the late 1800's as verified by a curator.

the binding on this little tree is a zipper! Never one to disappoint, R. comes up with more and more beautiful little pieces of art.

 LS chose a pre-printed Advent calendar to quilt and embroider with beads. The numbered days are each little pockets to fill with trinkets. The batting is 100 % wool roving. So cute.

 L. is a busy lady with the crochet hooks lately. She has made prayer shawls and this little piece is a baby hat. It is red with a pom-pom. What a happy little baby this will be. She is also doing these in green.

Our most prolific recyclers and re-purpose is MJ. These blocks were unfinished pieces she picked up at our Three Rivers Quilters show last March. We have a flea market of sorts called Granny's Attic where any number of treasures can be found. While not certain of their final use, MJ will come up with something I am sure.  

 K. is working on a cross-stitch block. These star blocks are a very nice blue and white, sorry these did not photograph better. Her stitching is so nice. These will make a beautiful quilt.

 This beautiful piece is done by M. Her piecing is beautiful and she has used a hand feather stitch around each block. It is more visible if you click on the photo the stitches more clearly. I should have taken a close-up.

 

BJ is making these cute little Christmas themed hearts. Embellished with buttons, they would make nice little ornaments although she says she doesn't have a final purpose yet. (?)

 And now, last but not least is a sweet little baby quilt pieced, layered and pinned ready to be quilted by J. She has a sit-down long arm and does really nice work. I admit to machine envy. Mmmmm.

 J. also made this crocheted prayer shawl for L.s project. The colors are lovely, nicer than they appear on this photo. 

J. to a class sponsored by TRQ last week. This eight pointed star has no Y seams. Her color choices are lovely. All seams are pressed open, rather than the traditional to the dark method. Now J. insists she does not do good work in class because she feels too rushed. I don't think I agree. I think it is beautiful!

We have some nice projects in the works for 2012 and I will share as we proceed. Have a Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow. We have so much to be thankful for. I will be seeing family, old friends and some new.

Quilting Designs: Filling Patterns Design Ideas

   So what is a quilter to do? I think that choosing a quilting design has turned into a quest of sorts. When reading Pathways to Better Quilting  by Sally Terry, I was reminded of a set of panto-graph patterns that I purchased several years ago when I bought the original HandiQuilter frame system for a domestic machine. These simple, repetitive designs are the go-to for the home quilter. Of course, many long-arm quilters use such patterns as well. Finding the most appropriate pattern for a particular quilt requires a study of the pieced design. I think that a design with curves would work well for piecing that is essentially nothing but hard and straight lines. The first pattern, the clam shell, is much like that. I started marking the Jelly Roll Marathon Quilt with a stencil I had on hand but the shells are much too small. Still Thinking About Quick Quilts-The 9 Patch Scramble

so here we have your average mixed/scrappy 9 patch, assembled and cut on the bias angles, then you mix the triangles up, spin them around. Happy Independence Day

   My shamrock, in spite of periodic neglect, continue to thrive, for years! Happy little plants. Much like life, ups and downs, and yet survival.  Do you remember when I said no more big projects after the bathroom? Well, I sort of lied in retrospect. Is it age or just impulsivity? I have been pondering the family room furniture for some time but just could not make up my mind. Well, then husband in his enthusiasm for the handle on a recliner that was only 1 year old, crack, bang, wood frame split. Sayonara baby. Much like a row boat taking on water, it had to go. But seriously, how do I get this monster down a 460 foot driveway? Mmm, a few phone calls, a friend with contacts all over the county and bingo, I have a removal man.  Called him, made appointment for an estimate to empty the room, and a bedroom.
