The (seems like) Forever Quilt

Happy weekend everyone. It has been such a busy week in Sewtopia and I hope everyone is celebrating the beauty of Spring's final days. I just cannot believe how fast time flies these days. This picture is from a few years ago, popped up on my older camera files and I had a melancholy moment. That black rocking chair gave up that Summer. It was over 100 years old and it literally cracked in half. It was not really a surprise, it was the paint holding it together!

That said I did find my camera hiding under the black canvas-like cover on my Destiny. It came with the machine and fits very well. I cover my machines after use. Obviously, I had the camera on the bed for some reason and left it there. My studio is a total mess right now. In the process of looking for the camera, I got side tracked and started sorting books and magazines. I plan to dedicate Saturday to putting it all back to normal.

Yellow daisies and snap dragons, just cannot get enough of these snap dragons.

So finally, drum roll please, I found the pictures of that scrap quilt I have had going for over a year. The Forever Quilt! You know, the one that you sort of make as you go along. Well, piles of charm squares, some jelly roll strips, and some odd bits here and there then done. I do color sort my scraps so that by the time I'm ready to use them, I have an idea of where to go.

I think the measurements are 68 by 72, don't quote me on that.

I popped it on the living room sofa, and saw all sorts of things I would change to this if I were not using scraps. I hate wasting fabric so about once a year or so, I put them all together and hope for the best. A couple of the ladies in our Tuesday gathering group are so good at this. I did learn some lessons from them. Color is not my strong point, we have discussed this in the past.

I did quite a bit of experimenting with quilting designs. Some of the runs of stitches puckered a bit. I plan to change the way I quilt larger quilts. I have one now that I am planning to put on the Coronet frame. I'm not comfortable doing large quilts on this frame. I cannot go larger, I am out of room where I work now.
Husband decided he would keep this one on his recliner. Between him and Lola, it will get regular use and washing. The binding is just a piece of black jelly roll. No bias.

  • So, what is your plan for the rest of the Summer? I have many, likely only a couple will be accomplished. I am in the process of sorting out some quilting magazines for donation. If I see something special, I tear out that page, put it in a sheet protector *plastic, and put it in it's appropriate binder. I will likely discard the rest of the magazine. There may be quite a few to go to new homes.
  • I will enjoy a "stay-cation" this Summer. I have day trips planned because my stamina is rather compromised.
  • I did see an outstanding show at the Frick Art Museum this week. If I can download the photo's from my iphone to this computer OR I will try to learn how to do it on my Apple Air computer that I don't use because it confounds me. After painting over 100 self portraits, the one I saw was the last one done by Mr. Rembrandt. I saw a charming Monet, my favorite was a Vermeer, and a little landscape by another painter of that time. I did use my seated walker and had to stop several times but I was determined.
  •  Next week I have planned a picnic, like we used to do with the kids and the older family members.
  • I am also considering a plan to the Pittsburgh Zoo. Now that is a big walk, lots of hills too. I have to check to see if I can use my electric scooter.

The quilt is wonderful! Your front porch is fabulous, the wide steps, the brick, classic and beautiful.
