Challenge Day #1- Fold and Sort Fabric

Red Twig Farms Peony GiveawayWow, this day really came around rather quickly, didn't it? I picked the last of my stunning peonies on Friday. (not these) For some reason, most of the leaves on the stems had black tips. Not mold, they look frozen. That is likely because we did have a cold spell just as the plant was breaking ground. The flowers were more fragile I think, but amazing just the same.

I have not "sorted" ahead of time, by the way. I am starting the same time as everyone else. I should have jumped ahead a bit so I would have some pictures to share but first, my camera SIM card was full, the new ones should come today, and of course, my IPhone won't  transfer to this computer and I let the Apple battery go down. I don't like that computer, there I said it. And to put a little icing on the proverbial cake, I am sick. First DIL came home with some God Awful fever, sore throat, and sinus infection. Of course, son decided to carry it around as well. In short order, in the middle of a Memorial Day Parade while riding in son's Humvee, husband decided he would like to see how sick he could get just so I could continue to play nurse. So, we have the dominant hand still in a cast up to his elbow, he is surely going to die from this cold, and I, coming off of a very jolting acupuncture treatment, did not get down to the studio space to do anything. Then wham, in his amazing generosity, husband thought I would more appreciate his near death experience if I could just have a bit as well. Seriously, is there some kind of target on my back?

Today, a wee bit on the weak side, I will put on my blinders and approach the drawers of doom. I want to sort out some fabric that has languished for a while to donate. But quite frankly, there isn't much I want to part with. Most of what I have left in quilting fabrics is within two to three years new. Keepers, almost all of it. It does need rearranged. The colors are all messed up and there is too much in a couple drawers. So that, for sure, is ready to go. I will show before and afters, hopefully, tomorrow.  I may remove the patterns from one three drawer unit and put them somewhere else. My dear quilting/embroidery friend has been doing a total re-do of her space will all new storage. Oh my, I am feeling woozy, it is beautiful! This is an older picture of my sewing space, tootsie, she don't look this good anymore!

  • So here's the deal, I want to get as much of this clean up done ASAP. I know I said no more big projects but my upstairs bath is getting a overhaul, even though the large soaking tub is perfect. I just can't use it because the step in is way to high for shaky stems like I'm living with these days. So, a big gut job has been ordered. The final measure will be done today. I have to say I will be really sad to see that beautiful tub go. Really sad, for many reasons.
  • Son and DIL spent the day working in the gardens. The upper acre, which is flat, has been planted with corn, potatoes, and squash. The little mountain to climb to get up there is a killer. I can't do it. The raised beds are like something out of a magazine, the herb beds are already overflowing. Mine are newly planted, doing well, but still small. I have a water source right there so that is not an issue except that the critters have already eaten through a hose. You know those fabric-like hoses that shrink up on themselves? Critter food. Had to buy new hose.
  • Husband gets his cast off on Wednesday. Then he starts physical therapy. There is quite a bit of work to do to get that hand working again. Careful exercises is required so as not to injure the new "artificial" tendon. These are fashioned from some kind of polymer and cadaver transplants. Yes, he was a bit freaked at first but he seems to have forgotten that part and I am not saying one word.
  • The countdown begins, day 1. The man came to measure the space where the new shower will be installed. He took lots of pictures. He wanted to see and photograph the water main shut off valve. Well, I had just pulled about 100 patterns out of the small chest where I will be putting some refolded fabric, today. That valve is in the back of a small closet where I have a mountain of fabric hung and folded, and two large bins full of quilt batting and backings. Oh, my. I had to move all that stuff so he could take a picture. If I didn't have a monster of a mess before, I sure do now!l
  • Remember, you didn't collect all that stuff on one shopping trip!
