Enjoyment and entertainment are very important to our well being. Everything from decorating to gardening, reading to watching, all provide the diversion our minds need to grow. This is why our needle work is so important to our creative spirits. I am in the process of "kitting up" some small projects to travel with me to waiting rooms and friend visits. A Sunday afternoon with a stitching friend is all the more enhanced when thread and linen are involved! Nothing wrong with some tea and a cookie either!
On my list, this little tome by my new favorite author.
Since my passion early in life would have been to own a bookshop, anything that even hints of this is required reading. The distinct advantage of these two is that they are part of my Prime membership. If I am not engaged in the book, I simply delete it, without cost.
Delightful descriptions and characterizations enliven this tale of an old-time gardener in an English countryside garden and his love of plants. With tender mentoring and the luck of winning a prize at the flower show, young Herbert becomes what he had dreamed of. This is the amusing story of an awkward orphan child with one leg a bit longer than the other who rises from unremarkable school-boy days spent picking wild-flowers and dodging angry farmers to become the legendary head gardener "Old Herbaceous," the most esteemed flower-show judge in the county and a famed horticultural wizard. Old Herbaceous traces his journey from young help to head gardener and although things have changed, the world had started with a garden (in Eden) after all, and things that old don't disappear so easily!
Television:
Netflix: Woman in Gold. This movie, based on a true story stars Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds. All by itself, that interested me. A touching story of the art works stolen by the Nazi's and the valiant efforts to return them to their rightful owners. Highly recommend, very inspiring.
