Planning a Tea Party to Commemorate the Queen's Jubilee

Good Morning Sewtopians! Today's post is a little preview of the events in the UK to celebrate the Queens Jubilee. The longest reigning monarch has seen so much during her time on the throne, that we, as Americans, can appreciate. In many ways, our cultures have been shared, our leaders have been involved, and our day to day lives have been entwined. So, in honor of this relationship, I share the events for the huge celebration in the UK to honor this lady who has given her entire life in service to her country. (please know that this post was written some time before the massacre in Texas, for that I have no words, only tears.)

Even if you are not a monarchist, one cannot ignore the 70 year reign of Queen Elizabeth, II. From Thursday, June 2nd to Sunday, June 5th, 2022. After our glorious celebration of Memorial Day and the opening of the Summer Season, we have another event to witness. While we are Americans and proud to be Americans, our history reminds us of how strong our ties are to the British culture.

The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service. Visit the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport's interactive map to find out more about events taking place across the UK.

In Sewtopia there will be a nice little tea party to commemorate the event. Anglophile or not, you can fire up the kettle and prime the teapot while your little treats on trays can wait patiently for the celebration. This Sewtopian does not need any great excuse to have a little tea party! 😉

FYI: Trooping of the Colour will be held on Thursday, June 2nd, starting at 11 am.

Friday 3rd June

Service of Thanksgiving: A Service of Thanksgiving for The Queen’s reign will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral. Great Paul, the largest church bell in the country, will be rung for the Service. It was made in 1882, but fell silent in the 1970s due to a broken mechanism. It was restored in 2021 and has been rung on 8 occasions since, but this is the 1st royal occasion it will be rung.

Saturday 4th June

The Derby at Epsom Downs: Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by Members of the Royal Family, will attend the Derby at Epsom Downs. Platinum Party at the Palace: The celebration will see famous faces from the world of entertainment brought together to perform for a night of musical tributes to celebrate the Jubilee. 22,000 people will attend the event including 10,000 allocated in a public ballot and 5,000 tickets for key workers. And now for the first time, the BBC have released artist visuals of the impressive setting and stage where the acts will perform. The full line-up of acts will be announced by the BBC in the coming weeks.

Sunday 5th June

The Big Jubilee Lunch:

Over 60k people have registered to host Big Jubilee Lunches on the Platinum celebration weekend, with events ranging from world record attempts for the longest street party to back garden BBQ’s and everything in between. Over ten million people across the UK are expected to be joining the celebrations to share friendship, food and fun at Big Jubilee Lunches as part of this nationwide act of community friendship. People across the world are also joining in with over 600 international Big Jubilee Lunches being planned throughout the Commonwealth and beyond - from Canada to Brazil, New Zealand to Japan and South Africa to Switzerland.

  •  As I plan the menu this week, I will be scanning all my new and old cookbooks for ideas. My Tea Time magazines are a wonderful source of information, ideas, and recipes as well.
  • Not quite the size of the celebration pictured above, my party will be a bit more quiet!
  • I have a grand selection of teas. I will chose one or two for the event.
  • Choosing just the right tea pot will not be as easy!
The British Monarchy
Starting Friday, we will move on to the Great American celebration of Memorial Day. Not just the opening of Summer, the preparation of our swimming pools, or the picnic plans we historically make for this holiday, but for the commemoration of those who fought and died in our wars protecting us from the evil that continues to threaten peace. See you then.
