A Charming Table Runner

Good One, right? Where did this week go? Appointments, sewing, planning, shopping, lunching....yes, all of the above. So, lets talk about sewing. I have been having a grand time learning the capabilities of the Baby Lock Accomplish straight-stitch only machine. I have say, I love it! (if it is possible to actually love an inanimate object!)  It performs well at high and very low speeds. The foot pedal is your control. I grew up using machines just like this one but I have to say the quality and balance of the stitch is far superior. I have had no tension or feed issues. I did add the LED lights, of course, but other than that it was good to go from the first try. Today I plan to experiment with the various feet and do some straight line quilting on a little table runner.

Here is the pattern of the day. It is one of those cute little Peach Tree projects that are so popular right now. Why? Well, first of all they are scrap busters. I have some charm squares sitting about that really don't coordinate with anything. These projects adapt well to pre-cuts. This little package of "New Muslin Mates" from Moda, several years ago, will work quite well. It is lights, darks, prints, and geometric patterns that all fit well together. The name of this pattern, ironically, is Charmer!
While this design does not necessarily need a pattern, per se, I preferred to purchase it ($3.50) because I keep a journal of projects and I like to support the designers as well as support local quilt shops.

Instructions are on the back of the laminated card. So, I trimmed the little strip off each square, mixed them up, sewed the 2 pieces together, laid them out, sewed the strips together. I just finished layering the little quilt with a simple warm and natural batting and a backing from the stash. I did just a bit of pinning.  I considered a quick Right Sides Together, stitch around, and turn but changed my mind because a black binding will frame it all up.  Now, I will quilt it up. Binding to be applied.

Yes, I am still working in the dining room. My studio is now populated with piles of fabric separated into categories, packed in totes, and ready for donation. There is NO room for this machine. Every flat surface is used.

  • finishes in next post, got side tracked this afternoon😕
  • any size square would work with this pattern, not just the 5- inch charm, adjusting the trim-off measurement could be fashioned to your purpose.😁
  • our Spring only lasted about 48 hours, today cold again, possible light snow over the weekend. 💥
All righty then, till next time, take care, be well, stitch among yourselves!
