Wanda's Wonders, The Bear Claw Block, from Exhuberant Color

Just one of Wanda's Wonders! That is what I call these blocks!

I enjoy scanning my favorite blog and retail sites much like reading cook books! You don't have to make the recipes but reading the book is like a travel log, I enjoy the sights. I see many fabulous quilts that inspire but I will never get around to making them. Historically, and I have no idea why, I have not been thrilled with the Bear Paw Block. I have seen many, many designs using this block, sometimes within another pattern and they are nice but not enough for me to make one. Then, Wanda Hanson, of Exuberant Color Blog, started playing with different fabric combinations of this block and I may be changing my mind. Just look at these:

She remarked in a post that these blocks were started years ago and some were sewn on a different sewing machine and she strongly feels that some are a bit "off" as a result and some fitting will be required.

She plans to alternate settings with these:

These blocks have the same appeal to me as Bonnie Hunters amazing scrap buster designs. All that color, seemingly not compatible but as Bonnie says....any fabric, even ugly fabric, looks great if you cut it small enough!

Wanda says this one is her favorite color combinations.
