A Friday This and That, October 2021

Just when I thought the floral gifts from my garden were gone, a nice stretch of warm weather kept the little stragglers blooming! These happy little ones sure to brighten this corner, and who doesn't need a bit of sunshine? Right?

Starting next week I am going to try to keep a schedule here. For me, time wise, and for you, dear readers.  My plan (always open to revision) is to post Monday, Wednesday, and Friday one week and Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday on alternate weeks. The focus here is changing just a bit, since a girl can only make so many quilts! Home and garden, kitchen and cooking, as well as sewing and quilting, will be included. Some embroidery and hand projects will too. It depends on my time and my energy level. We all know how much that can vary.

Here she is, made by husbands Grandmother and Aunt, sometime in the 1950's, it is totally hand pieced and quilted. It has been used and washed several times before it came to me.  To them, quilts were utility pieces, used, washed, hung on the line outside to dry in the sunshine. However, this one has minimal fading. You will note that the sashing strips around each block have faded a bit more than the fabric in the blocks. They are likely different fabrics.

It is spider season here. I went over by the barn to try to get some new photo's of the fungus here but after a series of bites, nasty ones I might add, I gave up. 4 big ones on my arm, one on my forehead, and a couple in my hair of all things. Itch, hurt, after healing I have scars every place the little monster got me. I didn't feel well after but had no big reaction.

  • Reading: Just Give Me a Soft Place to Land by Judy Condon was a free download in Kindle Unlimited. Not one I would have chosen otherwise, I recognized her name from her beautiful books written about Primitive and Colonial Decor. I have about a half-dozen of the early ones and enjoy the stories of how she transformed her homes and she tours others with similar style. She also published holiday and garden themed books. The older ones are actually selling on ebay for quite a tidy sum. I had no idea she had written a novel, I think it was self-published. Her style is rather stilted in this book but the stories are interesting. They chronicle three knitters who form a monthly circle and discuss personal issues more than knitting.
  • Cookbook: Hello  265 Eastern  European Recipes by Mr. World. I have no idea who he is, but this was another free download in Kindle. I was specifically looking for one recipe. A very interesting read, there are a few things there I plan to try!
  • TV: Netflix, The Billion Dollar Code. Oh my, this one is engaging. The story centers around the German developers of digital mapping apparently stolen by Google Maps! The story, the development and the law suits are developed around a true story. It is a limited series but one that will reveal just how quickly we accept new technology.
  •   If you have an Acorn subscription you might already know that there are 5 new releases of The Midsomer Mysteries for season 22. They are great. We discovered them during the long Winter of Pandemic isolation. And yes, we have watched all 22 seasons. Perfect for a cold night, cuddled in a quilt with a little fire and a cup of tea.  Special Feature: Baptiste, Season 2: Everything You Need to Know
  •  Season 2 premiers Sunday, at 9 pm on PBS.
  • For your smile of the day, a heritage breed Polish Chicken. How can a bird be so cute?

Have a wonderful weekend, see you Tuesday!
