Good morning fellow quilters. As you know, I like to feature works by other quilters now and then. Not just any quilts but special ones, ones that highlight, pattern, color, design, and quality. These three do just that. If nothing else, we can learn from these very talented professionals. They share their process, their mistakes, and their challenges. So brew up a cup of something you like and have a little read. There are links included to each post so that you can know about the quilt and the quilter. Lets stitch up something special today. Even if you just try a sample block, learning and accuracy will improve. And remember that all those orphan blocks can be made into something, not just part of your portfolio.
About this quilt and its maker, HERE! Do you all like color? Lots of color? Have lots of scrap solids? Here you go.......
As you know by now, I am color challenged. Never one to use lots of solid colored fabrics, a quilt like this is a game changer. I have followed Julie's work for some time and all of her quilts sing with color.
Speaking of color, just look at this sweet little row-by-row by Melissa. The bright colors just pop on that white background. The story of this little gem, HERE! I like the process of row-by-row quilts, particularly for a group project. Just assign the width of the quilt, the color family, and let everyone design their row. Too cute.
Another favorite style is applique, and birds are about the best! Lori, of Humble Quilts, is a meticulous stitcher. See the close-ups of her beautiful work, HERE!
- Now just a word about advertising on blogs. As you know, I have abandoned some blogs that have more advertising than content. Recently, I went back to a favorite and quite frankly, I couldn't even tell content from advertising, it is that bad.
- That said, I fully understand how many use this format for income. That is brilliant, however, finding a format that does not compromise your work is, in my opinion, a sell out. I still follow several bloggers who advertise but guarantee that the ads are placed appropriately in the side bar, on the bottom, or at least not popping up over and over as you scroll. I even mentioned this to that re-visited blogger, just asking in the comment section if she was aware of how the ads were placed. She deleted the remark, ignored the question (which I have never encountered in blogland) and that was it. I left again. Never to return.
- So, I guess I am a bit "peeved" this morning. Interestingly, these are mostly decor blogs, not many quilters.
- Please remember to support your LQS, online quilt businesses, and pattern designers.
