This Time Last Year

One of my roses at this time last year.
It is my habit to look back, a year from any given date to see what was going on in my life. Comparing this year to any other is pure folly, of course, but interesting. It helps me to recall people, places, and incidents that might have been lost in the fog of passing time.

I journal. I have for a long time. Some of my journals are filled with enthusiasm for the current project, for upcoming events, and the general joy of day to day life. Some filled with nothing but angst. And time moves on.

It was one year ago today that I completed this child's quilt for my friend Kay. It was about a year ago she began to clean out unfinished quilt tops, stash fabrics, and notions. Because of ill health, she surrendered her quilting life. Not by choice, by circumstance. This is one of the quilts that I completed. Such a sweet little gift it was to give to her great-granddaughter.

Kay was our binder. She loved to sit in the evenings and apply bindings to her quilts and others as well. I love these little Kai embroidery scissors for trimming threads while binding. The famous Isocord thread is a nice strong binding thread. This one is 40 Wt. I think but very fine and with its smooth surface, the thread glides through all those layers with ease.   The famous Harbor Freight magnetic dish is a must-have anytime there is a needle involved!
One of my favorite scrap bindings.

In conclusion, I would like to dedicate this Mother's Day to all those who quilt. The love and comfort of a quilt lasts long after the gift is presented. Like a Mother's hug, a quilt is a reminder of how we lived last year and even how we live today.

To Kay, my friend, my stitching sister. Happy Mothers Day.
