I spend a great deal of time in the kitchen, fresh fruit, always a pretty sight. |
In these days of isolation and separation, I find it is easy to slip into a boring routine. My simple daily wear is a pair of jeans or a tidy little pair of knit pants. In addition to some kind of solid color T-shirt, mostly white if I must admit, my apron is my only color. I like the white shirt because I like a bit of bleach with my laundry. So an apron it is.
With the cancellation of our Church Fish Fry, I put some of these aside. Now finished and already in rotation, I am not sure if I remembered to share. So, here are two.
A simple Chef's apron for the cook. The cake fabric has been around for some time, the gingham is from the 1970's, MIL's stash. |
Cute, isn't it? |
And here we have some blossoming Cherries, and more gingham.
This fabric was from a grand little shop near the Gettysburg Battlefield, and I used the good old Cover Stitch machine to give it a bit of a workout. |
- Little bright spots are often before us in such simple things. A new clean and fresh apron each day brings a smile. Not a symbol of female suppression as many have expressed but a symbol of my dedication to my home and my family.
- Evidenced by the lack of yeast, bread flour, and similar baking supplies in the grocery, more of us are cooking and baking these days. What a wonderful turn in the midst of this pandemic.
- The gingham fabrics are not cotton, they are a poly blend. I am anxious to see how they hold up. My pockets are very important to me. They substitute for the Huswife with some basic items such as a little stitching kit, a nail file, a pen and a little notebook, a micro-fiber cloth for cleaning my glasses, a little prayer shawl, and a one-decade rosary that belonged to my MIL. I have all these little things tucked in a zippered pouch. My phone is in the other pocket. I am good to go!
