Many moons ago I attended a couple of the Martha Pullen Heirloom Sewing Schools. What a great experience they were. 50 like-mimded ladies, top of the line Viking machines, and a nationally recognized teacher and her assistants that made my fledgling efforts look pretty darn good!

In my attempt to resurrect some fledgling embroidery skills I have started over. It is amazing just how quickly we lose a skill if it is not practiced. I have watched many YouTube videos by many experts and accomplished needleworkers. I have read book after book searching for a better method to hold a needle or use a frame to make it easier. My hands are so fussy these days and the eyes, well, talk about betrayal! (notice how many excuses I have :)
Needle Heaven!
I think this is the test, on the black Aida, #14. I know, I should be able to drive a truck through those little holes, right?

So, right now I have a few ideas.
  • Attempting to stitch a white thread onto medium gray 27 linen was a nightmare. I could not see it! Darn, new eyeglasses aren't helping. I often remove them to thread needles, that should have been a sign.
  • I have manipulated my Ott light to the point where the poor appliance is about ready to attack me and actually it does attack a bit. I adjust the light and the magnifier twists about or the pattern holder goes off. I should not be this difficult.
  • I am testing a new floor frame and a smaller hand hoop for comfort. So far, no conclusions.
  • By choice, I have mounted a Black #14 Aida on floor frame #1. After serging the edges it fits the frame nicely.
  • I chalk marked the center, the horizontal as well as the vertical axis. I am hoping these guidelines will help me to keep my counts and my work centered.
  • From fine linen to large hole Aida, girl what has happened here?
  • The pattern will be the one above from Black Bird Designs,
  • A stunning embroidery site you might want to visit. HERE
  • Feel free to say a prayer or light a candle for me. Lots of preparation here, outcome...well...we will see. Toodles, stay well.
I will need to change all the floss colors, of course.

I have cross stitched a lot and if you decide to use a hand held frame put something white in your lap. It’s supposed to make it easier to see the holes. Maybe put a white sheet on the floor below your standing frame. Blackbird Designs are my favorite designers in quilts and cross stitching. Hugs,
