Welcome July, The First Monday of the Month

Henry Glass Panel, Patriotic Theme, simple meander quilting.

July 1st, how did that happen she asks? It seems that the  months, Spring and Summer, pass much more quickly than the cold and dreary months. The first Monday of the month is a mending day for me in the studio. Sadly, some items are beyond the mend. An apron so threadbare that I can actually see through it in some places. Can you imagine? Several pair of Summer weight pants that are too long now. I am shrinking, this is true but now it requires a hemming. One of my least favorite sewing tasks is hemming. Oh well, has to be done.

Civil War Eight Pointed Star pattern and kit from Three Sheep Studio, HERE.https://threesheepstudio.blogspot.com/

I have two new completions, I know! How did that happen? The 8 pointed star Civil War reproduction pin cushion and a 4th of July patriotic quilted wall panel for MIL's room at "the home." I was flying through that one and actually skipped a little area on the side. Not quilted! Eek, too bad at this point. It is going up. I ran out of the black binding I wanted to use too. Framing these little things seems to define the areas particularly when the edges are white. I improvised (not so well actually) using a 1 1/2 inch jelly roll strip. Too small, makes for wonky corners, will need to be re-done. Oh well, things happen like that. It will be up for the 4th but she will likely not notice.
My favorite little thimble. It needs a little silver polish I think.
I glued a piece of that magnetic refrigerator magnet stuff in the lid. Great for holding needles. This box was picked up at a little shop in Niagra-on-the-Lake, Ontario about 35 years ago.

I keep a couple needles, the thimble and some black and white thread in this little box, next to my chair in the family room. Saves trips up or down stairs for quick little stitches. These are from Poland.

I have been fussing around with this little thing for a year. It is wool, sewn into triangles, stuffed with crushed walnut shells. After joining each triangle I topped it off with a little penny of the same fabric. Somewhere along the line I lost the one that came with the kit. Available from Rose Clay at Three Sheep Studio dot com.
That said, have a lovely day. Enjoy the sun and the puffy little clouds. Do you remember lying in the grass watching the clouds move by, sometimes forming shapes of animals or trees? I think I was a pensive child. My parents called me a "dreamer!" Yes, I think I am and I still do dream. Dreams imply hope and without hope there is not much left.

Not In Vain

by Emily Dickinson
If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain:
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
