Sew, Show, Tell-The Ladies of the Cloth

The Ladies have been very busy. Lets admire the red, white and blue projects shared this week.
Linda Sue is one of our passionate hand quilters. This sweet little star is destined for a decorative corner in her lake house. A big redecorating project has kept her busy recently but she still is honing her craft.

A close up shows nice neat little points and a star worthy of a nice frame. Thanks for sharing.
Disparate pieces become an isolette cover.
Still in a red, white and blue sort of theme Mary Jane shared this darling little Isolette cover quilt that the guild makes for a local neonatal unit. Because the lights are always on in these places the covers help to simulate night time while shading the little one. Measuring 36 inches square these are quick makes for the beginning as well as the advanced quilter. These are all sweet little blocks, note the Dalmations! The dotted fabric was a piece donated by long time member Kay. Mary Jane says she thinks this is about the end of that fabric. It has been used in many pieces.
Another view.
  • I think it is important to remember that not every quilted piece needs to be a bed quilt! Everything from a framed block to a lap quilt can help the quilter work on techniques.  Perfecting a nice sharp point to pattern matching can be honed.
  • Using up fabric, from small scraps to yardage is a goal for most of us. We (particularly I) become enchanted by fabric. The outstanding yardage in the shops now are like dreams of sugar plum fairies. They dance in my head.
  • Remember always that the internet is full of ideas for using scraps, yardage and pre-cuts. Many free patterns are offered by individual designers as well as magazines hoping to entice you to purchase a subscription.
