Always a special holiday in our family, memories flood my conscious of big picnics, lots of watermelon, adults playing dominoes seated at large wooden picnic tables painted very green. The children were running around playing catch me if you can games and a radio in the back ground with a Pirates baseball game in progress.
Probably the most controversial topic of the day was who gets possession of the enameled coffee pot for the year. Now, this was not your average coffee pot. It was so big 40 cups could be dispensed and after it was filled and the grounds in place one of the men had to heave the darn thing onto the stove. Now that's a coffee pot! After my parents moved south in the 1980's the coffee pot also moved on, I know not where.

So dear friends as you prepare for your 4th of July celebration let us not forget the real reason for the celebration. No, our Union is not perfect. No, we disagree on many issues but one thing is for certain. This nation is the greatest experiment in modern history. Be proud that you are an American.
