Meet The Sewing Box Quilt Shop in Somerset, Pa.

The Sewing Box Quilt Shop at Georgian Place in Somerset, Pa. is a gem! Upon entering one of the first things you notice is the beautiful light that literally kisses all the beautiful fabrics, samples and finished quilts. Next you are greeted by gracious employees who are helpful and enjoying the Shop Hop. Surrounded by like-souls, you know you have found a new favorite shop even though is is a little over an hour away. (from me) A trip well worth the time and effort.
Two large, well organized rooms provide many options for your quilting experience.
Seeing so many sample quilts sure does inspire. Currently popular in many areas, the Laura Heine fabric collage pieces grace this end of the room. Beautiful work.
A large front corner of the same room displays a large work table with comfortable chairs!
Patterns and fabrics from varied designers are showcased throughout the space and several areas showed finished quilts with pre-cut kits for your purchase. This is such a great idea.
This is the Laura Heine Birthday Cake Collage on a white background, I am smitten I tell you, smitten.

Absolutely Beautiful!

This shop checks important boxes for me:
  • Friendly staff and inviting atmosphere as well as lots of natural light and well lit spaces even in the back of the shop.
  • No unpleasant scent. This is really sort of a thing with me. Ventilation is essential in places like this. The off-gassing of chemicals from manufacturing process, musty smells from dampness, peculiar other scents that cannot always be identified, these scents do indeed permeate fabric and paper.
  • Fabric displays that feature the fabrics in orderly and revealing shelving or tables. I need to see the colors and patterns to make a decision, this shop does it very well.
  • Finished samples. Nothing inspires me more than finished blocks or entire quilts that highlight a pattern or fabric.
  • Some pre-cut kits, made by the shop, to make my shopping decisions easier. While I mostly purchase yardage and manufacturers pre-cuts (layer cakes, jelly rolls, charm packs) When I see a beautiful sample quilt, particularly one with many fabrics and colors, a pre-made kit is right on my quilting radar. In this instance several were offered for sale and I found that to be thoughtful, convenient and good business sense. While I understand that having a few of these about the shop is a bonus too many might cause fabric waste. We never want that.
  • Efficient check out is a closing thought. Having a few associates familiar with the check out process provides a smooth transition for the customer. It doesn't get better than that.
This shop is right off the Pennsylvania Turnpike at Somerset. If you are in the area you Must stop. There are many restaurants in the area as well. Take a break. Enjoy the scenery!

Keep On Hopping Quilters, you never know what you will find!💖
