The Week to Lift The Winter Blah's-Editorial Points with a Needlework Focus-#4

Warm, who doesn't like to be warm on a Winter's day? Warm to me translates as quilts. The planning, the color choices, the cutting and sewing and then the quilting. Hand quilting is the ultimate keep me warm activity. Sitting in a well lit corner with a nice hot cup of tea and a project to quilt is about as good as it gets. Soooo, on the 4th day of this week while we try to eradicate the Winter Blah's let us look at a few quilts I made some time ago. Think happy, think warm! Revisitng the quilts we have made in the past makes me happy. I remember where and when, who I sat beside during classes, who I gifted the items to and their response.
This is a flannel crib quilt made at a quilt guild event. My first using fabric cut with an Accuquilt cutter. It was great fun, lots of zig-zag stitching on this one.
In my quilting life I made two quilts I didn't really care for. Not sure why, this was one of them. The recipient likes it, I guess that is all that matters.
This one was for Memorial Day or Fourth of July, I forget which. It was fun. I made the binding the way husbands Grandmother taught me. The muslin backing was cut large enough to be double folded to the front and stitched down. OK, but I like traditional French binding. Not even sure where this quilt is right now.
I think this is the first Jelly Roll Race quilt I ever made. I still use it as a lap quilt. Quick, easy, a go-to for little ones to lay on the floor or in the grass and wash, wash, wash.
  •  While thinking warm is on my mind I think I will do my Spring Quilt re-fold this week. Twice per year I take them all out and shake them, re-fold or re-roll and then put them in their covers for storage. I need to whip up a few more covers. They are essentially pillow cases made from unbleached muslin, quick stitched and raw edges finished with a serged edge.
  • Think about warm weather projects you plan for the year. In summer I usually don't do wool applique or crochet with heavier yarns. I like to do piecing and embroidery. Task boxes are prepared so that everything is ready for travel or porch work.
  • Warm weather food is always welcome. Try out a new crock pot recipe, fashion a nice bowl of warm soup.
