This and That-Get To The Point

Points, the quilters skill builder.
Angles, bias, center, design, eager, friendship, groups, happy, intent, juggle, Kansas star, lines, match, notes, open, pencil, quiet, repeat, snip, touch, under, v-?, wrap, x-pattern, yellow, zig-zag?

What? After attending an interesting event we were tasked with a little parlor game to introduce ourselves. All from different walks of life with different skills and hobbies we were ask to create an alphabetical list of words that would define our hobby or craft. You could not use a word that identifies your choice.

Great fun, interesting people, not like one of those dreaded bridal shower games either!

Quilters were few and far between. Some showed great interest in the craft but felt it was too "mathematical," too complicated, too time consuming, too expensive. My answer to all these descriptions was, YES, it is all of these things but it is also many others. It is thought provoking, it is inquisitive, it is educational, it is fun and the feelings of accomplishment is worth all of perceptions of "too this or too that!"

My answer to too expensive is...save all those scraps. There are so many projects that can be made with bits and pieces. If you don't use them, pass them on, someone is always looking for pieces. My goal this year was to use up lots of scraps.
A recent finish, all scrap pieces, even the borders, binding and backing.

  • When I first started quilting I was taught to do this but quite frankly I have gotten a bit lazy and need to return to this method ! Do you need to work on points? Always something new to learn. Check out this tip from Pat Sloan published in Quilters Digest on Facebook. click here.
