flat squirrels,
who couldn't
make a decision. ~

The week end is upon us. These last weeks of August just seem to be coming and going before I know it. Some down time has given me the opportunity to check out some new blogs and Facebook pages. I am leaning to subjects that are kind, gentle, restful and steeped in the activities that I prefer.

I am reviewing some older CD's, mostly classical music that I haven't seen for a while. I am farming the yarn collection for items to donate. I am sorting my books to pass along and those that will be staying. My book shelves need a good dusting and sort out. No better time than now.

Linda Sue from our Ladies of the Cloth gathering has been spinning yarn for a couple years now and her skills are growing.
In her signature colors she spun the yarn in one and in two ply strands and constructed this little purse. The closure is one of her little wire wrapped beach glass pieces. So clever.

Quilting, intense quilting is the subject today. I know several traditional quilters who do not care for this style and some who actually hate it and proclaim in to be "attack quilting." With my first frame set up using a domestic machine I accidentally ended up doing intense quilting because I was trying too hard👀

The is the last quilt I did on the Sweet 16, by then Jelly Roll quilts were the go-to for me for gifting. They were easy to put together, fabrics were already coordinated and they were highly use-able, washable, gift-able. This photo does not clearly show the intense quilting but I used the same pattern throughout, modeled after the veins on a Hosta leaf! 💥

Over time and a few machines and set ups later I am somewhere in-between on the style. Sometimes more intense than others.
This is the "Turning Twenty"quilt that I made on a domestic machine and practiced quilting on my sit-down Sweet 16. Each block was different. What I learned, keep the density of the stitches the same. Otherwise you get yourself a nice warp.

  • This is a Facebook group with talent like I have never seen before. QITDQ-Quilt it to Death Anonymously. Request to join to see all the beautiful work. These closed groups usually ask a couple questions to verify that you are not a spammer.
  • Julia Quiltoff is a young lady I have mentioned here before. Her talent never ceases to amaze me just click here.
  • Kim from Chatterbox Quilts is a real pro.  Chatterbox Quilts Facebook Group Her facebook page chronicles her work, tutorials, members quilts.
Well, that's all for now. Today I am drying herbs for Winter cooking. Lola needs a bath and I am going to try to get some new aprons cut out. Since I wear one every day they get lots of use and are washed to the point of thread bare!
