My View From a Chilly Sunday

Almost done piecing the Tumbler Rows, 22 done, 2 more to go! Yeah! These blocks were cut  (ages ago) on the Accuquilt Die Cutter, they are 3 inch blocks. I used left over fabrics, and bits collected from a couple coordinating fabric lines. I am determined to use up all those Fat Quarters.

View from East Facing high window.
With a a scalding hot cup of coffee in hand a light snow is starting to fall this morning. Not unexpected, but tiresome by this time of year. In the above photo I tried to catch the three girls (deer) who normally bed down under those trees. They saw me and bounded off. One still has many of her spots, she was born much later in the season and I worry about her. She is frail.

I have been working on the UFO's. The little Tumbler Quilt that has been languishing got my full attention. Since the studio was cold I worked upstairs on Rachel, it gave me time to sort through some of the saved programs on the big TV that I record, intend to watch, then delete. 💟

My Baby Lock Rachel is a great all purpose machine, I have mentioned that before. Two things are problems with this machine however.

  1. The lighting on these smaller, less expensive machines, is useless. The little dim light barely anoints the needle bed.  I have a clamp-on Ott light directed toward the space but in the family room, where I sew it is still not enough. I am on the search for another light. I will wait for a sale at Joann's.
  2. I cannot understand why the number one position on the stitch selection dial is left of center. Does it not make sense that it would be THE dead center starting point? I have a piece of fabric with instructions to turn the dial to 2 right under the presser foot to remind me. And yet I broke another needle, machine had a bit of a groan and shudder as well. I am using a straight stitch 1/4 inch foot that is perfect for piecing. I actually thought I broke something in the feed yesterday because I was getting bobbin nests, but I had a poorly wound bobbin, replaced it and we were fine.
Another UFO here. A while ago I had this Purple Passion attack and bought way too much purple yarn. I have another blanket in progress, using that yarn. Quite frankly, I am about over the purple thing. 👾
Camera Play, Collage of all the stuff on my work table. I have no idea what I am doing.
  • I WILL finish piecing the Tumbler this week, add the borders etc. When I sew in the family room I make a bit of a mess, well, maybe more than a bit.
  • I will soldier on with the crochet PURPLE blanket, I figure another year or two should do it. (Ha!)
  • I have a couple more wool projects in progress but I cannot post the process or pictures of the patterns because they are copy righted. I can only show you the finished product. Two projects in fact. Both require a bit of hand work. Great evening-by-the-fire stitching.
  • A few Valentine projects to share as well.
  • FYI, I signed off on the 52 week photo challenge sponsored by the Vivacious Victorian. Why, because my house is not vintage or fancy. The photo's posted by this group shows crystal door knobs, winding carved staircases and leaded glass windows. I don't fit in. I am like the missing tooth in a mouth full of pearly whites. It was fun while it lasted but I was fussing about it, and this is the year I plan to eliminate such fusses. I need to simplify, and I did.
