The Quilters Idea Box

Red is the theme for January. Why you ask? Because I recently became aware that each month of the year has been designated a Birth Month Flower. Yes, and for January it is the carnation. The representative flower was Red. Thus the Red featured quilts. These are ideas Sewists, a means to jump start your creative year.
  • I like to gather ideas from many sources. For example, this first photo totally redesigns the log cabin piecing for me. Just look at the stunning feather quilted here. What a great idea!
  • Sometimes the most simple pattern can be interpreted in different color contrasts to create a totally different look. I would likely have made that star out of darker, more muted fabrics but in this instance, that white background, makes the design pop.
  • And last but not least, Wanda can take any fabric and make it sing. These pieces from her stash prove that point. The wonky blocks make all those different fabrics stunning.
Log cabin bath runner tutorial
These beautiful Bath Runners that measure 8 x 16  are made by the very talented Connie Kresin to be used on the back/top of her bathroom tanks. I have shown her work and her beautiful studio in the past because her talent is remarkable. Her quilting is free motion and her designs are always so appropriate to the piecing. Hope that makes sense. Her blog Freemotion By The River is a collection of her process and her work. This item also has a free tutorial if you wish to get a jump on Christmas 2018 or interpret the design in another colorway!

Another Red beauty is in progress on The Exuberant Color Blog. I have said it before and I will say it again, nobody does color as well as Wanda!
