Tool Time and Sashiko Embroidery

This is sort of a "tool time" post.
Hello Sewists. Today's post is essentially about a notion that is readily available to help you in your stitching. Quilty friend Terri introduced me to this recently. She is using it to aid in the placement and stitching of her Sashiko projects. While she has been making small projects, developing her stitch style and stitch tension, she shared this product last week at the Ladies of the Cloth gathering.

Pressure sensitive and water soluable, it can be used for many stitching projects. By tracing your design onto the product (via hand trace or printer copy) your stitch placement is assured.
While Terri is using for her Sashiko work, I can see how it would translate well to free hand machine work as well.

The high contrast on the dark blue fabric clearly shows how consistent Terri's stitches are.

Recently, I have also been reading about the role of Series Work and how the artist benefits from repetition. I need a bit more research on that subject but I think Terri has been doing this, maybe without specific intent but I can see the quality of her work is improving with each little project. I so enjoy learning from others experience.

At a recent sewing event I was reminded that most of us who "sew" operate in more than one medium. One lady I spoke with does machine embroidery on a commercial machine as a profession but does not know how to sew, anything. She admits to popping on a button or two but that's all.

Another lady is primarily a traditional quilter but is also a passionate knitter, while a young woman nearby was a hand embroiderer working primarily with wool fabrics but now dabbling in traditional quilting.

Inspiration.

And then some.

this will be beautiful

This is the beginning of Terri's current project....Koi on Denim Shirt. We will follow.

***this product washes away entirely. there is NO residue and the fabric remains soft and pliable after the wash.
