I'm A Quilter, I Come With Strings Attached

It is done, finally. The quilt I referred to as Batik Misery has been designated finished. I have mentioned that it is too much color for me, I had problems with one of the binding corners when I accidentally chopped it while trimming, and I like the back better than the front.
The things I do for this blog! Let me tell you at 6:30am, 28 F, in PJ's no less outside throwing this quilt on the grass and snapping away. As I have mentioned before, it is a good thing I live in the woods, they might be wanting to dress me in a little white jacket with the arms wrapped around the back! But I do think natural light takes the best photo's.

Now I feel sort of bad. I have never not liked a quilt this much, and the recipient seemed rather bored by the gift. I am quite sure her reaction (even though the fabric, pattern choices etc. were hers) has impacted the way I feel about it. I said it before and I will say it again, no more gift quilts. If someone sees one I have, likes it and/or wants it I will give it but I will not make one specially for anyone again. Lessons learned the hard way. Is this our culture not respecting hand made because they are so used to cheap, inferior quality imports? Is this a general apathy for 'things.' Or am I just exposed to more self centered people than usual?  Since I rarely go this direction in a post please excuse me. If you have had the opportunity to read the prior post about the cost of quilting you will understand one element of my discontent. In addition, my time is very valuable to me.  I suppose my expectations are too high. I need an adjustment. Or maybe just a simple Thank You. That is the "String."
the back, pieces from the original construction and yardage, Moda, cannot remember the designer.

Now that I look at it closely it is not that bad. As suggested by a friend I will rename it 'The Happy Quilt."

Here are some new links for you, quilts are everywhere and the reasons are as varied as those who make them.

  • It was our intention to 'camp' on our property in Mondo for the next few days to test all the systems. We are in the middle of a cold and pounding rain. No camping today.
  •  I recently read in a Consumer Report article that one of our local groceries (my main supplier) is number 7 in the country for the highest cost. Husband does most of the grocery shopping and I keep questioning him why he is spending so much. (I do give him a very specific list, btw.)  Now I fully understand. I needed a small roast for dinner tonight, a chuck roast for pot roast. $20.00 + for a simple pot roast. Little. These things used to be the cheapest cut on the block! So tonight's menu will read Pot Roast for the Queen!
  •  The green of Spring is enchanting.
  • I have had a recent passion for French sub-titled movies. Via Amazon Prime and my Kindle I have watched several that I never had time to see when they were first released. Currently I am watching a BBC charmer about Beatrix Potter played by Renee Zellweger. Complete with little animated bits this is a sweet story. The Official Peter Rabbit Site.

I think it's a lovely quilt, the colors are unexpected but it's exactly what a quilt should be. Sorry the recipient isn't thankful. I think it's why I slowed down on my niece's quilt, she looked less than enthused, so I'm tasking myself with a way of making it more exciting.
