To Be Snowbound.......

As I scanned the blogs and Facebook this morning I was amazed at how happy the writers were. Snow Days mean Sew Days for many of us. Once the loved ones are home and secure our thoughts turn to our projects without guilt of not doing this or not doing that, it's a Snow Day! On the Western side of the Allegheny Mountains we have about 7 inches so far, unfortunately those on the other side are going to be inundated according to the news people. Thoughts with you all.
The deer hide behind the pines and in the brush on the edge of the woods. They weren't there when I took this.

I intentionally left the the dead branches of these flowers in the urn this season to capture the skeleton of the plant during a snow just like this. They are so architectural and charming. Well, to me anyway.

So what does the Snowbound Sewist (waiting for my plowman) do while the snow falls? The fabric is washing and dinner simmers. Well, she reaches for her #28 tapestry needle and works on the hand held project of the moment, the Cross-Stitch Heart, a Freebee over at Samplers and Santa's. here.
So this is box #1 of the DMC Primative Colors. Yes, there is another box.

These are the recommended colors.

My printed copy of the chart.
The thread traced pattern on....wait for it.... #28 ct. linen! Yes, I am making the jump after one project. That should tell you a couple things: the new glasses are working out, I am more comfortable with the use of said linen and last but not least the stiff Aida will not work on the curved seams when I finish this.
I copied the pattern 'full-page' as Marley directed. See below. Then I used a large stitch around the heart after I pinned it to the linen 1/4 inch away from the sew line. After stitching I tore the heart away easily because the needle perforated the paper. So far , So good.

Marley's photo of her finished product.

I worked on this while watching Downton Abbey. It felt right to do a project like this during the Downton experience. I suspect my PJ's would not have passed muster for Granny however.
By the time Lady Mary got her come uppance from her man, this baby was coming out of the hoop and ready for a finish. All in all, time well spent.
  • Linen, loved working with it. This is two threads over two stitches, coverage was good.
  • I changed up the colors for each line of the alphabet. DMC #'s: 829, 830, 420, 301, 844, 3740.
  • Just in time for Valentine's Day, finish to follow.
  • Heart #2 in progress, a little different but very Happy,
