The Crazy Patch Notions Case

The sick Sewist has a breakfast, the Christmas dishes are still in service.
Well, here we go with another dubious start to the needle projects for 2015. Several years ago I purchased a wool 'kit' from a quilt show vendor. The sample was charming. It has been sitting on the side for some time and I decided to pay it some attention while waiting for my DMC thread for my pear. Lots of lovely wool pieces, this placement graph and a page of directions. The directions are a little vague and I am rather confused. Sounds all well and good but there is no picture in the pack. The above placement sheet tells me nothing. Fortunately, each of the little wool pieces have labels on the back to offer some guidance. I am pretty sure there was a picture at one time, I must have lost it or popped it into another kit. Rats! So now what?

I'm making this up as I go along, that's what.
The directions state to place the large wool piece on one end of the muslin and fleece backing then shape the other odd shapes on to the other side. They suggested pin. I didn't like it. So, I took it all apart, re-cut the pieces and brought out the Elmer's School Glue.
I pieced the pieces, overlapping the edges 1/4 inch and glued those puppies down. Then (gasp) I headed to the sewing machine and the invisible smoke colored thread. I stitched each edge with a small zig-zag stitch. We are all secure now. No more pins jabbing and edges flapping in the breeze.
All the little applique shapes have been glued to their respective fabrics and placed into the Amish Schoolgirl Basket. After I do the edge stitching, applique work and trims it will likely be close to Christmas 2016! A simple project said I, right.
For this project I am going to use the wool threads seen on the right in the little plastic box. These threads are lovely Aurifil 12/2 Lana wool and acrylic blend. They have great texture and the colors are muted and well suited to this project I think. I purchased it at the same time as the kit, At $9.99 per spool the Aurifil threads are considered by many to be top of the line. I'll report back.
The colors:
  • 8264 2BC-a country red color
  •  8340 1IE-a deep mushroom brown
  • 8784 2EW-a dark blue
  • 8920 1EE_a lovely dusky mustard color
Hopefully it will long somewhat better than these photo's. A bit of a dogs breakfast I think.  It seems that this might be the year of roadblocks. Two steps forward, one step back. Story of my life.
