Oh, Did You Think I Forgot About The Quilts?

The Ladies of the Cloth never cease to amaze me. Our Linda has been a busy girl! Just look at this beauty! We all were just oohing and aahing when she laid it out. It is beautiful. The design is modern and dimensional and the colors, well, the colors are glorious. Cut from yardage the fabric is a beautiful match.

The strips are in different sizes, I forget the sizes, 1 inch, 1 1/2, 2 inches etc. The strong geometric presentation with these colors and the alternating darks make this a winner.
The favorite towel that I decided to keep. So glad I did, it is me. And the clove studded pear is divine. The scent is so comfortable and it reminds me of a vintage cabin in the woods on a foggy day.  In actuality it is decomposing in its way, rotting. But as it rots it dries and as it dries it smells heavenly.
This is another towel, made the same day as the checked one. I was playing around with the decorative stitches. Fun. I haven't pulled out the rest of the stabilizer yet but I wanted to share how a simple white towel with woven-in color stripes on the sides can be gussied up with some simple stitching. In the past such decorations would have been lovingly stitched by hand by the dim light of a 40 watt Edison bulb. With family nearby listening to the radio Madam would have started this in June so she could have it ready to give by Valentines Day....of the following year. Of course, after this much work the towel would never have been used, it would have been tucked away with special doilies and dresser scarfs only to see the light of day once a year. Then 80 years later your cousin sees it at a garage sale and buys it for you for 50 cents because she knows you like such things. Yowsers!
In my version I push a button, program the stitches then press another button then go make a cup of tea. When I come back, bingo, done. Don't you just love the script on this shot.
The bottom stitches are a nice border and the top stitches are a double cross-stitch. Don't laugh, it is.
  •  I have been lax in working with the decorative stitches, sorry. I have lots of ideas, lots of formats, just not much time.
  • I have been watching re-runs of the old TV program, Judging Amy,  from the early 2000's while sewing and stitching. It really is good. Wholesome, lots of lessons to be learned, sort of like the Walton's in a new century sort of way.  I keep finding TV stations I didn't know I had. Good old Comcast, no wonder my rates keep going up. Mmmmm.
