I have missed not taking classes and workshops. Being around other creatives provides an energy that feeds that thread of your soul. At this particular event a few of the participants had a little jump on the project. Just look at this beauty. I forgot who this belongs to but just look at how she took the same concept and translated it into hexagons! Using the pristine white background defines each shape and the colors just pop!
Now the next series of photo's belong to my table-mate at the workshop, Kathy. Kathy has a Gammil long arm and has run her business for (I think) 17 years now. Her work is stunning. Many of the quilts you see on the TRQ website were quilted by her. It was so nice to share her creative process during the day. What I found most interesting is how she has evolved in her design sense. She wants to work with simple designs, clean, and with limited color application.

In the course of the day we each enjoyed the "playing" afforded by this type of workshop. Everyone enjoyed the process and some of us want to expand on this circle theme. In any case we learned to let go of our traditional quilt piecing restrictions. The circles were backed by fusible interfacing then cut on the Accuquilt. I believe most of these were backed with Pellon lightweight and Steam-a-Seam lightweight. (2) The fabric was flannel. A great fabric for this process. It fused beautifully with no ragged edges. This quilter and I both used the three step zig-zag stitch. Mine were a little tighter than hers. I used a 0.8 setting. Tomorrow, I'll show you what I mean.
