Just study the 'modern' style of fabrics, the increasing use of solid fabrics and the clever abstract trend to large negative spaces. If I recall correctly I have seen 5 rather distinct changes in quilting direction since I began in the late 1970's. The relatively recent infusion of young quilters with a different design esthetic provides an exciting alternative for today's quilter. There is so much at Market for the Quilt Shop owner to choose from and I am always amazed at how each one develops the personality for his/her shop from all these offerings.
