End of the Month, First of the Month

The Giant White Pumpkin

It was my intention to summarize each month at its end and project plans for the next month to prepare my creative psyche to be most productive. Well, I was so busy/distracted/restless/disorganized etc. at the August-September juncture that I forgot. August actually morphed into September!  Oh my. That, in and of itself, is  very telling, isn't it? While I did accomplish most of my goals for September, August was mostly a garden canning and drying and preserving month. Therefore, sewing was figuratively placed on the back burner. In one post  I think I actually remarked to myself that August needs to be set aside in the Sewing priority list.

Lists. I am a list maker. They keep me focused and also provide a sense of accomplishment. September for me is equivalent to starting the new school year. I like gathering my supplies, sorting out my to-do/dream folders and  setting up my project baskets.

This leads me to the subject of focus. One of my regular blog reads is Myrna Giesbrecht. .Not for the 'light reader' or a 'skim' reader, Myrna delves into subjects frequently discussed in the art, sewing and quilting blogs....focus. Admittedly an over-thinking person, Myrna voices many concerns that I share about the creative process but she really picks each element to pieces. As a result, she has recognized that this thinking, over-thinking, and general procrastination toward some projects is causing her to loose focus. I understand. While I do not examine my motivation with such deep introspection, I do recognize the tendency to stall in a project because I am over thinking it.

Enter the planned "She's Got Me Going in Circles Quilt!" See, I already have it named because I have thought and thought about it. Purchased new tools, a set of circle templates and an Olfa Circle Cutter, yards and yards of three different kinds of fusible interfacing. Each one re commended by different Sewists who claim their favorite is the best. Enough already! Cut a couple circles and get on with it, OK!

So there you have it. My word for October is Focus!   Or as the Nike ads propose Just Do It!
--------working on the  circles, next.
