Part # 2, Photo Finish for the Dogwood (Finally)

Done. I have been fussing with this little quilt for way too long. Here she is on a Friday, yes, Finished on Friday. Actually, it was done Wednesday but I had to wait for a break in the weather to take a photo. Cloudy again, a few quick snaps.

Measuring 60 inches square in its finished state, it is just the right size for a lap quilt when the air cools on the back porch. Please excuse the broom, I was in the process of a sweep after a wind storm.

Some final conclusions:
  1. I really like the effect of the quilting using the micro-fleece for batting, however, it is a little stiff. I am not sure if that will wash out but for a heavy use quilt I like it. Particularly for children. It is warm. Warmer than traditional cotton/poly batting.
  2. It has a 'shabby chic' look with these colors. Not usually my typical. One of our Sew and Sew members thought she might have entered a parallel universe on Tuesday. I was working on this, normally colors that Linda Sue prefers, and Linda Sue was working in darker colors, normally my preference. We reassured her that no, it is us, not Pod People and everything will be back to normal next week!!!
  3. I looked at this quilt too long. So long that I missed some very obvious to me now errors. On the front in the grass photo you can see that some of the alternate block fabric, the pink on white, ended up on the outside half-square triangle making it blend in with the block. It happened 6 times! I must have taken them off the wall and accidentally spun them around while joining them. I didn't even notice it when I was quilting...in the zone you know. Not until I took this photo, outside, in the grass did I see it. DUH! lesson learned. Pay attention and double check the next one. Yeesh!
  4. Most of all, glad to be done, to move on.
For next week I have plans to:
  • finish the borders and backs on two wool pillows, the hearts
  • and the pear tree

  • and maybe finish that apron!!! !

it's perfect, so don't worry about blocks turned the wrong way. and finishing is really something.

Thanks. I like to move along in a project and this one was a long process because I couldn't find the alternate block fabric. When I did I was super excited. Thus, the spin!!!!
