tucked into a log, this one illustrates that classic neck curve I always associate with shore birds

On a recent visit to North Carolina, while visiting my Sister and her family, I came across these carved shorebirds in her great room. While my "art" is essentially thread and fabric, three dimensional carvings are so far beyond my skill. Well lo and behold, my BIL, is learning the process and doing a rather good job if I do say so myself. How in the world does one capture these creatures from a piece of wood? I am very impressed. I will look forward to future carvings from the emerging artist!
