A Mending Monday, Linen Table Scarf

Fortunately, not much mending this month. I have a pair of jeans that need hemmed. They have a percentage of stretch lycra  in the denim that seems to grow with wear!
They need a 1 inch hem. No big deal.

This is my conundrum. It is a fine linen table scarf that is machine hem-stitched, but hand embroidered. At one area the hemstitching has shredded. I have looked through many books and magazines searching for a good mending solution. Basically, I would need to reweave the fabric, attempt to imitate the hem-stitch, and spend 6 months of my life tediously reworking the piece. Well, I picked it up at an antique shop. It is not a family heirloom so my investment in time needs to be reasonable.

so pretty

it is 84 inches long and about 18 inches wide

isn't this sad?

the solution is certainly less than satisfactory, but this is it. I butted the edges together and used a 2.0 zig-zag to secure it. That's all. Sometimes you have to cut your losses. If any further damage occurs I will likely cut it up and use it for something else. I think.
Gratuity Moment: realizing that I am not a miracle worker, here she grins with resignation. A well placed serving piece will disguise it nicely.  Compromise is a skill I am working on.

You could cut the tear off, make the linen a bit smaller & rehem. A wing needle might make a nice decorative border, just saying ...

I did consider that but it would crowd the embroidery on the long sides. I just put a band aid on it so to speak! Lazy!
