I have to admit that I love a new start. I am a sprinter, however, so keeping the pace long term is always the challenge. I don't diet consistently, I don't exercise beyond essential, but I do like my routines. they keep me centered. In some ways, that seems very inconsistent to me. Oh well.
The subject at hand is the moving and reorganizing of the new studio. What a job! Did I underestimate this project or what? Yes, emphatically yes. In my head I had it all planned. I started out with great vigor. I am older now, vigor is one of those things that is sporadic. And remember I am moving down two floors, from an upstairs bedroom to a basement room. Phase one was the plan. In my head I looked at this space and thought I will have room to spare. Well, we are filling up rather quickly. Measuring approximately twelve by twenty four feet, I had dreams of zones. In a way, that is happening. They are just smaller zones!
Step one was to clean up the space. I should paint but I am not in the mood right now. So I scrubbed the walls etc, gave the carpet a good clean, and cleaned out the closet. After I work there for a while, I will re-examine a color palette. For now, the ubiquitous vanilla beige walls.

Job #1. Moving the IKEA quilting fabric chest of drawers, x2. During the last year or so these drawers became rather messy. I would root around looking for something specific, then just stuff the rest back in, planning to re-do another day. Well let me say, that day did come, it took two days to complete the sorting of all the fabric. I removed each drawer (heavy) then moved the cabinets. I took everything out of the drawers, reorganized them and used the famous IKEA drawer organizers for fat quarters and half yard pieces.

| While sorting I found this pillow cover. Made by Husband's Grandmother, probably in the 50's it is all hand embroidered. I am not sure what the flowers are supposed to be, but they are growing on green trellis, made of bias strips. Several of the quilts I inherited from her have this same green fabric. I remember this pillow sitting on an old fashion metal glider on her front porch. It was painted the same green with tan trim. Her front porch was staged like another living room. They spent much time there watching the world go by in a bustling city neighborhood. She had the glider, with pillows, a chair or two and planters everywhere. All of her house plants came outside in the summer. There was even a hand braided rug in front of the glider. Good Memories. Look for this pillow on my redecorated back porch this summer. |
Gratuity Moment: getting those chests out of the hall way space in the laundry room.
