I am in the middle of reading this book. I had pre-ordered it when Sarai announced it last summer. As I am trying to concentrate, I hear a boat motor throbbing away in my driveway, the men-folk are winterizing the engines. An annual project, there is always lots of loud talking, dog barking and general mayhem. Anyone in the market for a nice boat? I can give you a price! Now, please remember, my sewing machines are not for sale, just that boat!!!
Back to the book. If you are familiar with Colette Patterns, you already know that they tend to style with a vintage feel for modern wear. They are generally beginner to intermediate in skill. The instructions are outstanding, probably the best ever. By following her blog posts, Sarai provides endless fabrication and sew along tutorials. An outstanding product in my opinion. "Inspired Styles and Classic Techniques for the New Seamstress" this book is a well written and photographed compilation of essential information. Long past the new seamstress category, I was not sure that I would gain much from reading this tome, but since I teach a little on the side, I felt that it would provide a fresh look for me to share.

On her website Sarai has photo's of finished examples of the patterns. Each project builds upon the skills presented. For example, the first pattern is "The Meringue Skirt." A pretty scalloped hem skirt. It teaches careful and accurate marking along with zipper insertion. Fitting, using a dress form, making a muslin, alterations and so much more is explained.
