This is friend Susan, from our little Tuesday morning quilt lovers group, the Sew-N-Sews. She graciously brought two examples of the "meandering style" quilting I described in a prior post. This wall hanging was done using Kaffe Fasset fabrics. Abstract in its over all design, you will note an underlying symmetry that pulls it all together. The quilting looks like water running over colorful rocks to me.
The next photo shows how well the colors blend and the stitching mirrors that but in the opposite direction. All in all a stunning piece to my eyes. *Please click on photo's to enlarge for detail.

| Hot of the presses, this one she was finishing today for a gift to be presented on Thursday. The color choices are amazing. I have very limited color sense, she pulled most of these fabrics from her stash using the blue fabric you see on each corner as a focus fabric. Really. |

Now, I am not thrilled with machine quilting, this is no secret. I mentioned in a prior post about how I planned to quilt the patriot. I did get some stitching done using the "meandering method," I should have waited before I started to look more closely at friends work, but I charged full speed ahead. MMMmmmm
So here it is, started.

I played around with settings and ended up using the 3.0 stitch length, but the one major change I made was reducing the pressure foot pressure down to 1.5-2.0. Since the median setting on this machine is 5.0 that is significant. However, the thick layers sort of bogged down the walking foot. This is so not going to be perfect, but it is a good trial of this method. Like many quilters, I need to find a fairly fast quilting pattern that I can use on just about anything if I need to finish a piece in less than a year:) I don't want to be fussing around with utility quilts. Masterpieces, different story. This quilt will be a porch quilt with the other Red, White and Blues from Memorial Day until after the 4th of July. Then the beachy looking ones come out. So, Thank You S. for sharing your quilts and talent, if mine come out half as nice as yours, I will be happy.
