I live in the suburbs but these photo's look rather rural. Sometimes I just need a break from sewing, planning etc and a little stroll with my assistant accomplishes that.

not much left of this tree, it used to be majestic, we called it the owl tree, an owl lived in it, now it seems that carpenter ants and termites have moved in...there goes the neighborhood. |

this is a hole dug by some woodland animal over the winter, cozy little nest. it is actually about three feet deep. |

looking east, more fallen trees from winter 2010, snowmageddon |

nice little trail we have carved over the years, clearing out trees is a regular past-time for husband |

when I first saw this insect he was moving very slowly, awkwardly, then upside down. Being the nature detective that I am, I looked closer. If you look at the top of the bug (God knows what it is, remember I live in the woods!) there is a little, itty bitty ant pulling the carcass along. I could not believe it. Who said an ant can't move a rubber tree plant? That ant was really working hard, I was taking a break. I felt sort of guilty, back to work, pressing fabrics, mmm! |
