The gang's hanging out. A basket of cross stitch pears and cotton bolls. |
In the run-up to the Jane Fiddes stitch-along over on Facebook, the experts, including the Hands Across the Sea Samplers designer, Nicola Parkman, are sharing lots of tips and tidbits. On this day the discussion was about how do you form your stitches? Many stated, "it depends!" Since I work right to left I tend to mostly use #3. Since I am doing lots of experimenting while waiting for my supplies I have tried some other ways but always go back. Essentially, as long as the top cross is going the same direction, all through the pattern, it probably doesn't matter that much. Dealing with the stiffness in the hands is still sort of a thing. I am fussing a bit but don't want to get all weird about it. I take some out, put them back, etc. but I don't like to do that more than once, or maybe even twice, because little thread fibers get left behind in the linen. I think this pear is my favorite finish. Not sure why other than I like how the edges finished. I finally finished the Irish pear. This is the one I finished, tore apart, re-cut, re-stuffed, and stitched back up. I a so glad that I did. It is just a tad smaller than the other pears but that's OK. I gave her double leaves, two different colors. I love it now.
