Organizing the Rulers and Templates in the Studio

Sometimes I step back and eye my sewing space with surprise. How did I get all this stuff in here? Tools are very important to the Sewist, and you know I love my tools and gadgets.

However, the collections of tools, gadgets and widgets does require some organization. I found these letter holder things in a discount store for $2.99! I know, they are three times that in the office supply store where they started their retail journey. What to do with these you ask?
Rulers, templates and patterns fit beautifully. They are upright and will not warp, they are protected and will not be scratched, win, win. I keep the ones I am using and a couple standards in a wooden scored ruler stand near the machine to keep them handy. I like to have these others visible because quite frankly, I forget about them.

Books and Patterns in the queue.
  • do you re-purpose household items?
  • have you ever cruised the office supply stores looking for sewing notions? everything from binder clips and letter stacks can be used in the studio.
  • do we have too many tools? (please say no)
  • Tools...we like them,  we need them, we collect them. I have mentioned in the past that I am a tool passionista. Is that a word? Don't know if Websters has approved it yet but I find that having the correct tools for the job are important, particularly for the quilter. Accuracy is essential if our patterns are to come together properly and the designs that we choose to create are to be cut accurately. Thus says the Sewist.
A charming idea. If you have a collection of pincushions, this might be something you would consider. I have little display room in the studio now, but I do like this idea. Might consider it. From All People Quilt.
These little templates are so useful for cutting accurately. However, they get misplaced and overlooked when cutting time begins. I have just sorted them into their own little drawers but now that I see this idea, from All People Quilt, I know where they are going now. What a fabulous idea! A three ring binder, some heavy duty vinyl sheets and voila', all in one place, visible and ready for use. No more wasted minutes searching them out.
