Can you believe that it has been 15 years since this movie was released? I have always been fascinated with the Titanic moves through time. If the hype is to be believed, the new 3D version is spectacular. Of course, I will enjoy the movie, but the clothes are gorgeous.

So that leads me to the 1912 project. The participants are working away altering and interpreting their patterns. Rather beyond my reach at this time but some of the results are up and posted at the home site. I am impressed. One of my favorite bloggers has finished her wrap and her posts describe her process. Her interpretation is entirely wearable today. In so many ways this project has awakened the spirit of the sewist.

I know that many people don't like this term, but to me it encompasses the best of those who participate in the needle arts. A SEWer and an artIST. Works for me, beats "sewer." That label conjures up sounds of flushing. "Seamstress" feels like my
Grandmother altering clothes for rich people who treated her poorly. Never mind, enough of that!

My participation in the project is simple and personal. I have been studying my books and patterns to recreate the fine embellishment techniques on simple garments, particularly nightwear. I thank the Martha Pullen schools for awakening this passion in me, a sewist.

15 years? Where has the time gone? I feel like I just saw that movie. And now it is released in 3-D!

I know, the next incarnation will likely be in smell-o-vision or something and I won't be able to smell!
