Mr. Sewtopia is a Halloween type of guy. This black wiry wreath with beads, ghosts, spiders, pumpkins and witches is right up his proverbial alley! The Sewist endures........at least until the day after Halloween:) |

Meet the Olfa Circle Cutter. |
 |
The Pivot Pin |
 |
The cutting wheel with the cover retracted. |
 |
This is the experiment fabric and the Pellon-light-weight fusible. I tried the fabric on top of the layer and the fabric on the bottom. I ultimately chose putting the Pellon on top. Because it is light-weight, it tended to shift when cutting. On the top I was able to secure the Pellon with pins and finger pressure as the wheel turned. |
 |
Swiss cheese, a little bit of waste that I will compensate for in the chosen fabrics. |
A couple pins in the circle helped with the cutting and sewing. I used my 1/4 inch foot, used my needle down function and set the speed at slow. I tend to have a 'heavy foot!' Here The Right side of the fabric faces the glue-dot side of the Pellon.
Circle is sewn, cut an X in the in Pellon. Carefully pull the Pellon and the fabric apart before cutting, be careful not to cut the fabric.

fabric and Pellon pulled apart to facilitate safe cutting :) |

I like using my applique cutting scissors for close trimming. When turning fusible appliques like this one, particularly rounded edges, trim very close to the stitching line. I cut three threads away from the stitching line.
Using the point turner, push all that turned fabric into a smooth curve and using a Teflon Pressing sheet (so that the fusible does not adhere) give the circle a nice press.

this is what I used |

Two fat quarters have yielded 30 circles large to small. So far. I ended up using the circle templates for the very small circles, the cutter was unyielding with such a tight circumference. |
*no compensation received or implied for the Olfa circle cutter, Gingher Scissor or Pellon fusible interfacing.
After my circles are all cut, sewn, trimmed and pressed they will be fused to the backing fabric and stitched down with as close to an invisible stitch as possible. I will be testing different stitches and threads as well.
Later...................
