Picnic to Celebrate the Jubilee? How to Celebrate Your Way!

Unable to travel right now? Well, lets think about how we can enjoy the local scenery and sights with some special ideas and company to create some memories. Every store has picnic items, including cute little fold up chairs that are easy to transport. Expand your life a bit, do something different. We used to pack a picnic and take MIL to a local park when weather permitted. It added a dimension to her life that her dementia had taken. The isolation of that illness can be devastating without stimulation. For us, it does much the same thing. Change routines up a bit, visit local sights to expand you day. Take in some fresh air and see just what is happening in your world!  Bundle Of White And Yellow Roses In White Background Stock Photo - Download Image Now - iStock

Virtual shopping here! If you have had the opportunity to visit Fortnum & Mason, in London, you already know about elegance. Of course, you can import that same bling via online orders and some limited stock at Williams Sonoma. I love their little cookies, teas, and jams. It just makes a tea time special!

Of course, for the Queens Jubilee, they are offering one of their famous (a favorite of kings and nobility as well as the average connoisseur) picnic baskets. This one is the Jubilee Special. My on my, I am feeling palpitations here.

The Jubilee Celebration HamperThat blue, that glorious blue color says it all. Soooo, we can always pack a a little hamper with some nibbles, maybe a bottle of sparkling wine, a thermos of hot water for tea, and head off to a serene little picnic place. Just enjoy the little things. You don't need to spend $200 for a new picnic basket!  Use what you have, make a little snack, and walk to a nice nearby place or splurge and drive to a park!

  • Find a little basket in your home or a sturdy tote bag. Line it with a table cloth, a piece of quilt fabric, or any large kitchen towel to protect the contents.
  • Dig out one of your little quilts or a blanket for the picnic table or the grass for your place setting.
  • Don't forget some napkins.
  • Make up enough sandwiches for you and who ever you invite, or hit the local deli and let them provide the main course. I make salads and put them in little canning jars!
  • Don't forget some little containers of pickled vegetables, condiments, jellies and jams.
  • A small container (make sure it is air tight to avoid the items picking up moisture) for some snack crackers and cheese.
  • Some cookies or other sweet is a nice treat too.
  • A bottle of wine, don't forget the opener, and some glasses, unbreakable glasses are available at party stores.
  • A hot thermos of water for tea, and the tea accoutrements.
Have Fun.  Bring out the picnic quilts.
