A Menu Challenge for Me!

One important element at The Maple Lane House, beyond the scope of the sewing room is truly the kitchen. If, like me, you are cooking most of the meals your family consumes, I am always looking for inspiration, new ideas on old recipes, variety! This amazing grocery on Route 30, in Jeanette, Pa. is a destination event. Home of the Italian community in the area, this store has the most amazing assortment of fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meats, sauces, condiments etc. An extensive deli offers everything you need to feed the troops. The olive and gardinaria assortment are worth the trip alone.

This year, the calendar offers an interesting assortment of recipes, all with Italian influence. In addition, a challenge for us to copy their recipes and share on social media is the impetus to try something new. THAT is my project Kitchen Chronicles project for 2022!

Below is the ad I received in email, you can check it out by signing up for their email list, or just pop over to their website for recipes, blog posts, online shopping, and inspiration. website, HERE. I receive nothing for this post, it is just a favorite place and offers lots of ideas for the home cook.

THE RECIPE OF THE WEEK!

Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers with a Balsamic Glaze

This jalapeño poppers recipe takes your favorite fiery app to another level. Wrapped in bacon, filled with cheeses and topped off with a drizzle of balsamic glaze, these irresistible peppers are almost too good to share. If you're looking for a winning party appetizer idea or just an over-the-top snack for movie night, this one is for you.

INGREDIENTS

  • 16-20 slices of bacon
  • 10 fresh whole jalapeño peppers, halved lengthwise and seeded
  • 1 cup softened cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon black ground pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • Topping and drizzle: DeLallo Balsamic Glaze

DIRECTIONS

  1. Slice jalapeños in half. Remove seeds. Set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, salt, pepper, garrlic powder and shredded cheese.
  3. Stuff each jalapeño half with the cream cheese mixture.
  4. Next, wrap each jalapeño with bacon. Secure with a toothpick.
  5. Heat a nonstick skillet on the stovetop until very hot (about 10 minutes).
  6. Fry peppers in the pan until bacon is crispy and cooked through. Gently turn to cook all sides. Be mindful so that the cream cheese stays in tact.
  7. Serve drizzled with Delallo Balsamic Glaze.

Wowza. Must check into that address if we make another Pittsburgh trip. SO much larger than my Italian market. I heard there was a favorite Polish market (downtown?) of the church members. The last of that pierogi group passed away last year and I lost the shop's name. There is a restaurant in Hubbard Ohio, Lena's Pierogi House, that has a wonderful menu and excellent food. Easier than searching and cooking!

Ahh, Delallo's is right on rt 30. I didn't even mention frozen specialties, the bakery, or the bread to die for. Mrs. Delallo, long since passed told me that she discovered a little village in Italy called Talonica. She acquired the recipe and the method of preparation and started selling it in the store. For years, I would drive out there just to buy the bread! Now there are two types in 1 lb and 2 lb loaves. Outstanding.

The Polish deli is the S & D Polish deli in the strip district. I took pierogi classes there from the original owners, there was a video that played on the website of me and my friends up to our ears in flour! I still make them, just picked up the containers I use today at Costco. I will post the link to S & D and the recipe the original owners taught me.
