In this mini-series of suggestions for Handmade Holiday gifts I am looking at all types of fabric designs. With the current abundance of theme fabrics available now, you could choose everything from Christmas floral patterns to snowman and stars. Most of us probably have a stash to provide the needed materials. I am always looking for a nice little gift, sort of generic, that can please friends,
family or coworkers. I suggest these little Coasters. Made with small
amounts of many fabrics, these little mats can brighten the day.
This example is from Lori Holt's 'Bee in my Bonnet' line. These can be square or round in your favorite color and pattern. Too cute. New Holiday theme fabric, left over test patterns, end cuts etc. combined with a dense needle-punched batting designed for purse construction (lost the packaging, not sure of manufacturer) but widely available. I have oodles of small binding scraps that now have purpose. In singles or packages of 2-4 or 6 tied with ribbon these are Holiday Gift appropriate.

These can finish at any size, most convenient is around 4 to 6 inches. Happy Stitching! |
